Doris Ashman passed away peacefully on January 18 at Canyon Lakes Rehab Center in Kennewick, Washington with eleven members of our family by her side. She didn't recover from her severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Her days and nights were becoming more and more unbearable. At last she is resting in peace in a most beautiful place. She is survived by her husband, Clarence (Mike). For over eighty years she and Mike were best friends and deeply in love with each other, seventy-two years as husband and wife sweethearts. They met while taking part in a Sunday School Easter pageant in their San Francisco neighborhood Baptist Church in 1934. They married in 1944 in San Francisco and moved to Hawaii in 1948. They lived on Kaua'i, O'ahu, Lana'i, Mindanao, Saipan and California before retiring at Princeville, Hawaii and later to Kennewick. At a future date, their ashes will be co-mingled and scattered at Hanalei Bay on Kauai, their island home for so many years. She is also survived by her daughter, Lynne Hartz of Prosser, WA, two sons, Michael of Kula, HI and William (Bill) of San Jose, CA, son-in law Ken Hartz, daughters-in-law Naomi Ashman and Carol Ashman, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. We'll all miss her. We'll always remember how she led in creating a loving family. And, while we may no longer have her with us when the family gets together, we'll always be able to hold her and see her within our memories and our hearts.
