Donovan Don J. Harter, age 75 passed away on August 7, 2009 at the Tri-City Chaplaincy Hospice House in Kennewick, WA. He was born in Cedar City, Utah on September 14, 1933 to Harold and Vera Harter. The youngest of 4 children, in his early years Don?s family moved around Utah, Nevada and Washington as his father worked, he moved to Kahlotus, WA. and lived first with his Aunt Pearl who was a teacher at the Star School House then with his Grandparents where he graduated high school in 1951. Don joined the Air Force in 1952 and served for 4 years, he was stationed at various bases across Europe and was discharged in 1956 as an Airman Private 2nd Class. After his service, Don choose to follow in his father?s footsteps, he joined the Carpenters Trade Union. In 1956, Don met and married Marion Bradford, they settled in Pasco, WA. They raised 4 children as Don worked in his trade at various projects throughout the Northwest. They divorced in 1975. Don met his long time companion Lois Roberson in 1977. He and Lois spent many summers traveling to their favorite spots in Montana, Nevada & Utah. Though Don retired from the Carpenter?s in 1990, he was an avid wood worker and enjoyed building things for his family. He was a bowler and really enjoyed his time in a bowling league. He loved to fish and traveled around the northwest finding the best spots. He enjoyed hunting and camping with friends and family and tried to do as much of it as he could. Don was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, his sister Helen Harter and brother Lloyd Harter. He is survived by his companion and friend of 32 years Lois Roberson, his sons Ron Carmen Harter, Dennis Harter, Raymond Sally Harter and Mike Roberson, his daughters Donna Harter and Mary Mike Davis, his sister Betty Bill Themar, 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at the LDS Church, 515 S. Union in Kennewick. Viewing will be from 10:00am, with the service beginning at 11:00am. Don had a kind heart and loved his family very much, he hurt with their sorrows and rejoiced in their triumphs, we will miss your smile, your love and you?re teasing. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the Tri-City Chaplaincy Hospice House in Don?s name.
