Obituary

Don McGary, 97, passed away March 6, 2022, in Richland, Washington from complications due to pneumonia. Don and his twin sister, Donna, were born January 12, 1925, in Shelley, Idaho to David and Esther Staples McGary. While still in high school, Don was drafted into the army to fight in WWII in the 12th armored division. After his honorable discharge, he met LaVon Marie Beebe and they were married on October 25, 1946, in Firth, Idaho. In 1949 they were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Seven children were born to Don & LaVon in Shelley, Idaho. Don learned carpentry work while working for his uncle, which laid the foundation for future opportunities. In 1964 Don & LaVon were called on a church-building mission to Basin City, Washington, and, upon completion of the Basin City Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, they chose to stay and raise their family in the area. Don balanced carpentry jobs, farming, and driving school bus. After their children were raised Don & LaVon served as temple workers in the Seattle Washington Temple, then a mission to Nauvoo, Illinois, and later as Temple Construction missionaries for the Spokane Washington Temple. Don's greatest joy was his family: His wife, Lavon; children Sheryl (Jim) Nielsen, Steve (Debra) McGary, Terri (Lyn) Price, Scot (Tamlee) McGary, Eileen (Mark) Maxfield, Lane (Jan) McGary, and Curtis (Julie) McGary. He leaves a legacy of 39 grandchildren, 162 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 12 at 10 a.m. at the Basin City Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A viewing will be held March 11 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home, 1608 W. Court Street, Pasco, and before the funeral at 9 a.m.
