Dean passed away from a heart attack on March 25, 2016. He was born in Poplar, Montana, on June 6, 1933 to parents Adella Dorthea Zeige and Harvey Allen Davis. His parents separated when he was very young and his father died when Dean was nine years old. Dean and his mom lived with and near relatives in Poplar where he attended school through his junior year in high school. He spent summers on his uncle's nearby ranch and worked for the Forest Service for one summer on a fire lookout near Libby. His mother married Fuhrman A. Asbury, Agent for the Native American Reservation at Wolf Point. Dean was an only child and was happy to gain an older brother, Thomas William, (Bill), and two sisters Dorothy May and Barbara Ann, from the marriage. The family moved to Wolf Point, Montana, and Dean graduated from high school there. Dean and Bill attended college at Oklahoma A&M College, now Oklahoma State Univ., taking fire protection and safety courses. Dean later completed his education at the University of Montana in Missoula with a degree in Business Administration. His first job was with the Montana Fire Rating Bureau in Butte where he worked as a Surveyor. There he met and married Sonna Liljenquist who was also an employee. They moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, in 1959 where Dean worked as safety engineer for the Atomic Energy Division of Phillips Petroleum at the National Reactor Testing Station. Bill and family came later and also worked at the Site. Dean's and Sonna's only child, daughter Kira Allyn, was born in Idaho Falls in 1963. The two families had many enjoyable adventures in Idaho's recreation areas until Dean went to work for the Department of Energy at Richland, Washington, as a fire protection engineer in 1969 and the family moved to Kennewick. Washington and Oregon were also well traveled and enjoyed, especially the Oregon coast near Yachats, one of Dean's favorite places. The last and best adventure of his fire safety career was employment with the U.S. Army as Chief, Fire Protection Services, HQ U.S. Army, Europe, and Seventh Army from November 1981 through June 1996. Military headquarters were located in Heidelberg, Germany and the family lived near there. Dean's jurisdiction included military sites in Germany, Italy, Wales, Belgium, Turkey and Greece. He loved the job and the travel and lived through many changes in Europe. He was there when The Wall came down. He retired and the family moved back to their former residence in Kennewick in July, 1996. Dean requested cremation with no memorial services. His wishes were carried out March 31. Dean is survived by his wife Sonna and daughter Kira, Cousins Barlow and Della Colgan and family, niece LeeAnn and husband Tim Tierney and family, niece Dana Liebel and family, Bill's wife Onita Asbury, nephews Thomas, Richard and James Asbury and families.
