David Edelman, MD., was born to Louis and Hazel Edelman in Omaha, Nebraska on June 12, 1925. When he was 16, he and two friends traveled to Camas, Washington, where he worked one summer at the paper mill, fell in love with the Pacific Northwest mountains and waters, and vowed to return. During active duty in World War II in both the European and Pacific theaters, David?s life long career in medicine began as a medic, earning the rank of TEC 4. David completed his BA in Zoology in 2 years from the University of Omaha and received an MD degree from the University of Nebraska four years later in 1952. He interned at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, and in 1953 he opened a private family practice where he often made house calls. David met the love of his life, Lynne, and married her in 1947. They had great times at the Phi Chi Medical Fraternity parties. They started their family in 1951 with the birth of David LeRoy Edelman, Jr. followed by Bradley Kent Edelman in 1952 and Janis Lynne Edelman in 1954. They lead by example and gave their children opportunities to lead successful, happy lives. In 1959, David completed his radiology residency at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, WA and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. In 1962, Dr. Edelman settled in Kennewick, Washington becoming the third partner in Tri-City Radiology. He was a staff member at all the local hospitals including Kennewick General Hospital where he served as Chief of Staff in 1972-1973 in addition to providing services in the medical offices in Kennewick and Richland. His was well respected in the medical community, retiring in 1987 after 25 years. Boating was one of David?s loves. He navigated the beautiful waters of the Pacific Northwest with fellow members and friends of the International Order of the Blue Gavel, Everett Yacht Club and the Clover Island Yacht Club. David was honored with ?Life Time Membership? at the Clover Island Yacht Club in 1992 for his active participation in club business since 1964, including two years as Commodore in 1971 and 1972. David passed away surrounded by his loving family. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, admired for his integrity, respected for his dedication to all endeavors, and missed for his love and compassion. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lynne Edelman, children and grandchildren whom he dearly loved. Survivors include son David Edelman, Jr. wife Theresa, daughter Janis Orthmann husband Dennis, granddaughters Amy Evans husband Miles and Erin Matsuda husband Mathew, and grandsons Louis Edelman, Drew Orthmann, Mark Orthmann, and Alan Orthmann. Graveside services were performed for Dr. Edelman with full military honors by the Washington Army National Guard and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5785 on April 26, 2006. Proceedings were officiated by Pastor Alice Shaw. Services were attended by the survivors. The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors and staff at Lady of Lourdes Hospital for the extraordinary medical care given to David.
