David Harold Hammitt, "Cowboy," passed away at the age of 73 on September 4, 2021 after an eight-year battle with Prostate Cancer. He was born on December 5, 1947 at Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Pasco, Washington. He spent his early childhood living in Finley, Washington until 1960 when his family moved to Benton City, Washington where he grew up in 4-H and gained his love for horses. He graduated from Kiona-Benton High School in 1966. He then joined the Navy where he spent time in Vietnam and the Philippines. He finished his career in the Navy in 1972 and spent some time in the Army National Guard in 1979. After his time in the military, he moved back to Benton City, Washington where he spent his days working at Sandvic Special Metals, retiring in 2015 after 41 ½ years of service. He spent his spare time training horses and being a 4-H leader and mentor to a lot of kids. After retiring at Sandvic, he started raising Boer Goats as a retirement project to help out 4-H and FFA kids get their animals. David is preceded in death by his first wife, Lucy; parents, Lloyd and Viola Hammitt; brother, Samual; sisters Dorthy, Hazel Lee, and Clara; and grandson, Ty Greyson. He is survived by his wife, Clysta Victoria; brothers, Lynn and Larry Hammitt; sisters, Betty McGehee and Diane Bigelow; children, Frank, Leon, Rocel, Samual and Christina; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The Graveside service will be Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 10:00am at Desert Lawn Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will be held following. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Tri-Cities Cancer Center 7350 W. Deschutes Ave. Ste A Kennewick, Washington or to the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House 2108 W. Entiat Ave. Kennewick, Washington in David Hammitt's name.
