Obituary

DANNY LEE MORASCH Danny Morasch, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away suddenly at his home in Pasco on October 15, 2017, with his beloved wife, Shirley, at his side. He was born on July 10, 1942, in Auburn, Washington, where his parents had moved from the family farm near Endicott, Washington, to work in the war effort. The family returned to Endicott in 1945 and Dan graduated from Endicott High School in 1960. He moved to the Tri-Cities later that year to study civil engineering at Columbia Basin College and graduated with an Associate of Sciences degree in 1962. While attending CBC, Dan worked at John's Auto Mart in Kennewick and established a lifelong friendship with the John and Betty Williamson family. Dan commenced his career as a drainage engineer with the Bureau of Reclamation soon after graduation and worked out of the Pasco, Ephrata, Moses Lake, and Mesa offices for the following twenty-nine years. For much of that time he also worked after hours to tend the orchards of his parents-in-law, Jim and Luvena Maulden, of Grandview. After retiring from the Bureau in 1991, Dan served for sixteen more years in Pasco with the South Columbia Basin Irrigation District. He retired from that position in 2007 for a total of 45 years of service to the region's farmers. Dan met Shirley, his beloved wife of 49 years, on a blind date in 1968 and they were married later that same year. They raised three wonderful children—David, Brian, and Kayla, who enjoyed family fishing expeditions led by Dan throughout the Pacific Northwest. He greatly enjoyed trout fishing at Curlew Lake—where they hosted visitors at the state park for seven years, the fall steelhead runs on the Columbia Reach, and jet boating with family and friends. He was a master woodworker who crafted magnificent hardwood objects, and could repair virtually any piece of mechanical equipment—a skill he demonstrated on innumerable occasions at work, in the orchard, and for friends and neighbors. He also became a devoted baker in recent years with heritage grain flours used by his pioneer farmer ancestors. Dan is survived by his wife, Shirley, sons and daughters-in-law David and Jennifer Morasch (Spokane, WA) and Brian and Melissa Morasch (Kennewick, WA), daughter Kayla Brant (Spokane, WA), mother-in-law Luvena Maulden (Pasco, WA), sister Claudia Weitz (East Wenatchee, WA), sister and brother-in-law Lois and Richard Scheuerman (Richland), brother-in-law Ken Maulden (Murray, UT), sister-in-law and husband Jan and Mike Brasher (The Woodlands, TX), grandchildren Gabe, Alex, Luke, Savanna, Jacob, Lexy, Katie, Tyler, Alyssa, and Carleigh, numerous nieces and nephews, and his canine companion of 10 years, Gizmo. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Faith Assembly Christian Center, 1800 Rd. 72, Pasco, WA. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
