Perry Dale Howard was born December 12, 1934 in Buena, WA to parents Lottie and Robert Marshal Howard. Dale was the youngest of eleven children (six boys and five girls). When Lottie was twenty and Robert was thirty-seven they farmed a Homestead (Section of land) in Iowa. They eventually moved to South Dakota, Canada, and Montana, finally settling in Buena, Washington where Dale was born. In 1941 Dale and his family moved to Yakima, WA. When the U.S. entered WWII, Dale's 5 older brothers volunteered for different branches of the service and all returned home safely. Dale graduated from Yakima High School in 1953. He moved to Pasco in 1954 to work for "Gene and Jules" Grocery Stores. Dale met the love of his life, Shirley Jean Coffland while employed there. They were married in a double wedding with Shirley's brother, Ken Coffland and his bride Beverly Conrad in July 1956. Dale and Shirley's first son, Larry Allen Howard was born in 1960 followed by Donald Scott Howard in 1963. Dale worked as a produce manager at Gene and Jules Grocery Stores from 1954-1964. In 1964 Dale purchased an A&W Root Beer franchise complete with good food and car hops. Dale's family and friends were his priority so Dale retired from the restaurant business at the age of 42. He enjoyed traveling and toured the United States and Canada site seeing and exploring every fishing stream along the way. In his younger years he spent long hours water skiing on the Columbia River and countless cold winter days skiing the Blue Mountains with his family. Dale could always be seen at a Pasco High School sporting event cheering on the Bulldogs or a music festival cheering on his youngest son Don. He loved fishing with his son Larry and his favorite lake and streams were in the Wallowa Mountains where he spent endless hours with his family Dale and Shirley were members of the Pasco Seventh-day Adventist Church for 36 years. They made lasting friendships and enjoyed lots of camp outs and potlucks. Dale was married to Shirley for 56 years and he adored her. Shirley passed away in 2009 of cancer and he missed her every single day! Dale was an amazing man that knew no strangers, always had a joke to share, a story to tell and made everyone he talked to feel important and special. Dale made a positive difference in the lives of everyone who knew him. Dale died peacefully in his sleep on October 4, 2013. We will miss him so much. His sister, Rose Humes, son and daughter in-law Don and Stacey Howard, grandchildren Francine, Luke, Taylor and Chandler, and great-granddaughter Maci survive Dale. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at 2 PM at the Riverview Seventh-day Adventist Church, 605 N. Road 36, Pasco WA.
