Cornelius P. Warmenhoven, 92 of Kennewick, died March 14, 2010. Mr. Warmenhoven was born in 1917 to Paul C. and Anna de Boer Warmenhoven in Scheveningen, Holland. He moved with his family when he was four years old to Sunnyside, in 1921, where he was raised and received his education, and lived most of his life there before moving to Kennewick, Washington in 1994 where he lived till the time of his death. He grew up on a farm, and in 1935, he went to work for his father and oldest brother, Paul, at the Holland Bakery. On July 8, 1942 he married Ruth Muir, also of Sunnyside. On September 15, 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy for the duration of World War II. He was discharged October 15, 1945. He went to work for Muir Manufacturing Company as a wholesale driver & salesman. In 1954 he went to work for the U.S. Post Office in Sunnyside where he spent most of his years as a window clerk. He retired in 1977. His hobbies were visiting the elderly, shut-ins, and nursing homes. He sang every Tuesday morning with the sing-a-long group at Hillcrest Nursing Home, and he loved to travel with his wife. He was a member for many years of the Sunnyside Christian Reformed Church, where he served many years as elder and Sunday school teacher. He was also active in the Sunnyside Christian School having served as secretary-treasurer, and then, president of the board. He was also a charter member of the Sunnyside Camp of Gideons International, having been a member for 70 years and having served as president, secretary, treasurer and chaplain. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ruth, two sons Simon and wife Barbara, of Bothell, WA, Donald and wife Eke, of Puyallup, WA, daughter Corinne Rockwell, of Kennewick, WA; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, three brothers and three sisters. Viewing will be Friday, March 19th, 12:00pm to 8:00pm, at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street, Kennewick. Celebration of Life services will be held Saturday, March 20th, 11:00am, at Family of Faith Church, 835 N. Neel Street, Kennewick. Private interment will take place at Sunnyside's Lower Valley Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Gideon's International or a charity of your choice.
