Cindy Wright Doyle, 50, died on Sunday, October 15th, 2017 after complications resulting from sudden cardiac arrest. Cindy was born May 23, 1967, in Richland Washington and was a lifelong area resident. She was a devoted mother and wife, and a tireless volunteer for numerous charities and public service organizations in the Tri-Cities community. She was also a manager for Battelle at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Family and friends were Cindy's true passions. Taking vacations with her family was one of her greatest joys. She would begin planning the family's next vacation the day after returning from the last vacation destination. The family rode horses through rainstorms in the Rockies, snorkeled in the tropics of the Caribbean, and hiked countless mountains in the Valley of the Sun. She cherished those moments in the company of the people who meant the very most to her, her family. Her devotion to her sons was boundless. Whether it be shivering through baseball doubleheaders, proofing homework, keeping mother-son Snapchat streaks alive, or providing a shoulder to cry on, she was always there for her boys. Her unconditional love for Derek and Blake is the most enduring memory she leaves behind. Celebrating Christmas was another of Cindy's loves. Decorating the house, annually participating in the Living Nativity at Hillspring Church, and baking cookies were three of her greatest joys of the holiday season. The Doyle home had beautifully decorated trees in every room of the house. She loved the meaning of Christmas and, as was always Cindy's tendency, going above and beyond in providing friends and family with as much holiday spirit as she could. Her indomitable spirit will be forever linked to her generosity and caring for others. Cindy was part of a special group of friends whose collective heart is broken. Her standard greeting was "Hello, Sunshine!" What a wonderful way to start the day…or to start a friendship. From Cirque du Soleil in Vegas to Broadway in New York to Mission Beach in San Diego, Cindy was our cheerleader, encouraging us to "take the risk," to have fun, and to get outside of our comfort zone. We often sat around the dinner table sharing our hopes and dreams, working through challenging times in our lives, and gathering strength from each other. And then, there were the epic shopping sprees. Shoes. And more shoes. Throughout her life, Cindy and her friends were blessed with wonderful relationships. There is no doubt that Cindy is in heaven catching up with her best friend, Kristen Brown Jaquish, who preceded her in death. Cindy graduated from Kamiakin High School, earned her Bachelor's degree from Eastern Washington University, and later received her Master's degree from Washington State University. During her 27-year career at PNNL, Cindy embraced challenges and pushed herself to grow and develop as a leader. Her "can do" attitude, in-depth knowledge of the Lab, and personal credibility enabled her to lead diverse teams, solve difficult problems in practical ways, and manage high-visibility initiatives. Cindy earned the respect of those that she worked with, whether locally or with her peers across the country. She'd roll up her sleeves, kick off her heels, and crunch numbers with the best of them, then turn around and deliver the most professional presentation to top management imaginable. She respected everyone she met and made everyone feel important because to her, they were. Smart, creative, professional and most of all, caring—those are the traits she relied on and demonstrated every day at work. Those are the things that will be missed the most. The words of her team reflect her impact as a leader: "In Cindy, we delighted in a strong leader with confidence, intelligence, and heart. She was our mentor, our friend, and our champion. She was fearless and fun, and displayed grace in all she did. We are all better because of her and are struggling without her. We carry on in her honor." Cindy was a treasured member of the Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation Board. After joining the board in 2013, Cindy's joyful attitude and contagious smile provided incredible support to countless cancer patients and their families in our community. Cindy was the go-to person in finding volunteers for many events and free cancer screenings. Cindy's involvement with Team Battelle volunteers created many opportunities to support the cancer center, including the incredible support provided by "For the Love of Giving" program. Cindy's leadership in including the Center in this program provided for many people in our community who were in need. Cindy's outstanding passion for volunteering inspired her church, friends and her family to often join in the spirit of giving. She will be sorely missed by her Tri-Cities Cancer Center family. Volunteering for her sons' respective baseball organizations was something Cindy jumped into with her usual 110% effort, including taking on the most demanding of the tasks like the concession manager for Kennewick American Youth Baseball. That job was literally seven days a week, ordering and verifying inventory, arranging for and following through with parent volunteers for shifts. In typical Cindy fashion, most game night evenings she disregarded the manager title and you could find her standing over a fryer or dumping garbage in her business formal attire and high heels after putting in a long day at the office. Cindy also took on the role of Team Mom numerous times. She was in every sense of the phrase a true Baseball Mom. She is survived by her husband, Tim Doyle and sons Derek and Blake Doyle; mother, Vel Wright; mother-in-law, Neva Doyle; brother, Kyle (and Jen) Wright; and, a large extended family. She is preceded in death by her father, Philip Wright and father-in-law, James Doyle. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund in memory of Cindy has been established at Eastern Washington University.
