Cheryl Koy Hanford of Kennewick, Washington was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022 at the age of 81 Family and friends surrounded her with love and laughter during her final days. Cheryl was born on March 28, 1941, In Brewster, Washington to Geraldeen and Lloyd Waggoner. She was the youngest of three children and grew up in the North East Area of Washington State. Cheryl attended Brewster High School in the small town of Brewster, Washington. She graduated in June 1959. During her high school years, she developed lifelong relationship with classmates and attended yearly pie social gatherings in Brewster. How did they meet? In 1960, she met and married Lanny L. Hanford in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Soon after, they moved to Arizona where she worked in high-end retail. In 1961, Cheryl returned to Brewster, Washington where she worked for the one bank in Brewster while raising two children Troy Hanford and Julie Day. The family moved in 1965 to Kennewick, Washington and Cheryl continued her career in banking, and WNP2. In 1983, Cheryl moved to Spokane with her husband. There she worked for the state of Washington at the department of vocalation and rehabilitation. Cheryl retired in 1993 and returned to Kennewick, Washington to be near her children and grandchildren. She loved being a grandmother and created a loving environment for her grandchildren and their friends. Everyone referred to her as "grandma" and she always answered with a smile. She wanted everyone to feel loved and appreciated by a grandmother. She enjoyed many things in life. Cheryl had a love for plants and animals. You could see the love in the way she cared for her garden and flowers. We often caught her feeding neighborhood cats, beautiful birds and sneaky squirrels. Cheryl was a member of the Colville Indian Agency. She enjoyed being an active member and supporting the agency. She loved to educate her grandchildren on the Native American culture by taking them to places in the Pacific Northwest and telling them stories. Cheryl spent many weekends with her grandchildren showing them the great outdoors and the importance of nature. She enjoyed pointing out the different types of plants and how some could be used as a paint. Family Members Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, Lanny and her children Troy and Julie. She was a proud grandmother to grandchildren Lani and Mike and her great granddaughters Madison and Justine.
