On June 2, 2008, Charles J. Carey, loving husband and father, died after a decline in health at Kadlec Hospital in Richland, WA. Born in St. Petersburg, Florida on January 4, 1928 Chuck was the son of Charles W. and Mary DeEtte West. He spent his early childhood in Florida. While working and attending high school he enjoyed music, baseball and softball. During this period Chuck also delivered papers and assisted his father working in his shoe store and dry cleaning business. His love of music led him to aspire to become 1st chair trumpet in his school band. He spent much of his spare time with friend's sailing off the coast near his home. Eventually his work training led him into the wood working and construction trades. It was the influence of a friend in California which led him across the country to pursue a new trade in the newspaper printing business. After working for several years in CA he later transferred to a growing Las Vegas community to further his career advancement in the newspaper industry. In 1953 he eventually moved and settled in Kennewick, WA to work for the up and coming Tri-City Herald newspaper. Chuck was hired as a Foreman in Makeup Department of the paper, a job which he held for 21 years before retiring to pursue other business opportunities. Chuck met his wife Carol Bailey while working at the newspaper and then later was married. Chuck and Carol enjoyed 48 years of marriage together while raising 5 children. In 1974 following Chuck's retirement they relocated from Kennewick to Benton City to begin a new career as owners of apartment, restaurant, mobile home and janitorial businesses. He was a very devoted husband and father, and was always active with his children's activities growing up. Having loved photography as a hobby for many years led him to pursue his desire to become a professional photographer. He and his wife worked together in a professional photo business specializing in weddings, senior and family pictures. Chuck was also an active member of the L.D.S. Church serving in many callings. As the youngest child graduated from high school a decision was made to return to Kennewick to concentrate on their janitorial business, which was very successful for the next 16 years. Following this business they later returned back to Benton City to help accommodate family and to more efficiently run their other business. Chuck is survived by his wife by his loving wife Carol Bailey and his 5 children; Bryan Penny, Paul Debbie, Todd Gina, Cindy, Jill Rob and his 16 grandchildren; Kyle, Amy, Nick, Kristina, Becki, Donovan, Sarah, Quintin, Alyssa, Tayler, Dakota, Triston W., Tristan R., Savannah, Talon and Jerika. Other relatives include his in-Laws, Elaine Reber family, Renee/Stu McKinnis family, Vern Marilyn Bailey family and only living sibling Barbara Wilson. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and his son Charles E. Viewing will be held Saturday, June 7, 2008, 11:30 am, at the Kennewick L.D.S Chapel at 820 S. Buntin Street with Funeral Services beginning at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
