Channey D. Williams passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side December 9, 2007. Channey was born July 8, 1939 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to Florence and Eugene Williams. The family migrated to Bremerton, Washington during World War II, working in the shipyards, finally settling in Kennewick, Washington in the early 1950?s. Channey graduated from Kennewick High School in 1958. He married his life long partner and love Linda Fay Spady in Coeur d?Alene, Idaho August 9, 1958. Channey worked in the Operating Engineers union for several years before starting S&W Hay Company in 1961. The hay company grew from dairy farm deliveries to support of Emerald Downs in Auburn, Washington in recent years. Channey?s life revolved around his family and friends, and he loved nothing better than an evening on his couch surrounded by loved ones with laughter, jokes and story-telling. No more loving father and grandfather could be found, nor a kinder, gentle soul who always made the best of any situation. Channey served as a role model for all he touched in his life with a sparkly light in his eyes and a quick smile. An early morning round of cards with good friends at the rummy table was an appointment he hated to miss. Singing at the poker table while dragging the chips would round out his travels. Channey was always looking for a good horse to train and race and owned numerous race horses throughout his life, a hobby he coordinated with his hay business. He is survived by his wife Linda; sons Eugene Jill Williams of Kennewick and Jack Williams of San Diego; daughter Susan Jenkins of Kennewick; four grandchildren Austin & Paige Williams and Eric & Liesel Jenkins; sisters-in-law Diane Spady Shinker and Kim Spady Blume; brothers Stanley Williams, Ronald Williams and Donovan Williams of Kennewick; sister Laura Cooper of Kennewick; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their thanks to all the staff at the Kennewick Life Care Center for the compassion and concern always shown for Channey.
