    Byron Lee Combs

    November 10, 1937 - September 25, 2021

Byron was born November 10th, 1937 and passed away peacefully in his sleep, on September 25th, 2021 at the age of 83, at his home in Kennewick, WA. Byron was born in Belle Fourche, South Dakota near the Black Hills. He always loved the Black Hills and would remember it often. Byron always felt most peaceful outdoors. Cutting posts with his dad in the Black Hills, walking the woods with a trusted dog or roaming the southwest with the love of his life, Carol. He was always most content out of doors. Byron loved the Canyonlands of the Southwest, his face would light up describing the landscape, sunsets, night skies or one of the many trails he explored. Carol finally made him carry at least a walkie talkie when he went walkabout. Byron was a lifelong teacher, the kind of teacher we all wish we had. He knew the value of consistent effort, but also knew the best way to get results was with a softer approach, never making his student feel that they weren't capable of success. He was a self-taught artist, carving guns after helping his dad cut posts as a boy, painting landscapes, giving pencil and ink drawings as gifts, once creating a calendar that had a different tree illustrated each month in enough detail to be included in a Princeton Field Guide. Professional quality pieces his family has been proud to display for many years. Mark Twain once said "The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog." Byron had a lifelong relationship with dogs, he loved them- and they certainly loved him. Preceded in death by his Parents, Byron and Pauline Combs, Sister Wanda Eve Doescher and Daughter Pamela Rae Combs. Survived by his wife of 34 years, Carol Combs, Daughter Nancy Combs, Son Michael Combs and his wife Corie and grandsons, Pavin Scott Combs, Acton Michael Combs and Hogan Samuel Combs. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mikey's Chance Canine Rescue via PayPal ([email protected] ), Venmo (@mikeyschance) or mailed to Mikey's Chance PO Box 4535, West Richland, WA 99353.
