Betty J. Leonard Reed passed away peacefully on April 21, 2010, with her family at her side. She was born on March 4, 1922 in Jeffersonville, Indiana to John and Emma Leonard. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald E. Reed of 53 years, her brother Jack Leonard and her parents. Betty was a registered nurse and served in the United States Army during World War II for two years. She is survived by her children Debbie Shafer husband Jerry; Mike Reed wife Kathy; Pam Halliday husband Paul and Nancy Whitcomb husband Terry. She was a loving "Gram" and her grandchildren have many wonderful memories. Shelby Shafer Lee husband Scott; Caitlin Shafer; Jordan Reed wife Mia; Zach Reed; Tyler Halliday wife Karma; Emily Halliday Vander Pol husband Nate; Seth Halliday; Mecque' Whitcomb Fonseca husband Jay and Mackenzie Whitcomb. She also delighted in the birth of her two great grandchildren Kendall Lee and Owen Reed. We will remember her sense of humor, her love of laughter and her sense of independence. Her passing has left a hole in our hearts. Words cannot say enough to express the family's gratitude for the kind and compassionate care given by Dr. James P. Campbell and his staff during the last few years of Mom's life. We would also like to thank the Chaplaincy Hospice House for so gracefully guiding us through Mom's final journey. A rosary will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at 5:00 pm at Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home in Pasco. The funeral mass will be held on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 10:00 am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Pasco. In lieu of flowers, it is her wish that memorial contributions be made to the Children's Developmental Center in appreciation for their support in helping "Kenzie" reach her full potential.
