Anita Hall passed away January 11, 2007 in Pasco, Washington, at age 75. She was born June 3, 1931 in Seattle, WA. Her family moved to Ketchikan, Alaska, where her father, John Griffin, owned a shipyard and lumber mill and built ships for the US Navy. He built a fishing boat named, "The Anita", which is still in use today. After her mother??s death at age 11, Anita moved to Walla Walla, WA to live with her older brother and his wife, John and Ruby Griffin. She graduated from Walla Walla Valley Academy in 1948 and went on to earn a Bachelor??s degree in Nursing from Walla Walla College. Anita started her nursing career at Walla Walla General Hospital and within two years was promoted to Director of Nursing. To this day, she remains the youngest nurse to be promoted to Director of Nurses at WWGH. Anita met and married Lester L. Hall, also a graduate of Walla Walla College, and began a family while working in the local area. They had two children, Lesli and Mark. Lester was a high school mathematics teacher, and then attended Andrews University seminary training and became an ordained SDA minister. In 1965 the family moved to Wisconsin where Lester pastored a number of churches for eight years. The pastoral years were very busy for Anita as she took up all the duties of a pastor??s wife while continuing her hospital nursing career. She filled quite a variety of roles including Junior Camp Nurse, pianist and organist for evangelism, piano teacher, and loyal Ingatherer. She donated her time to teach all eight elementary grades for one year when the fledging church school had no teacher and no money to pay one. They eventually moved back to the Northwest to be near family and settled in the Milton_Freewater area where they purchased a small apple farm. They lived on the farm for the next 26 years. During her career, Anita worked as a nurse for over 35 years, generally in a supervisory capacity. She earned a Master??s in Public Health from Loma Linda University in 1978, and became a college professor. She spent 16 years teaching nursing at Walla Walla Community College. Anita loved to teach, and is remembered fondly by her former students. She retired in 1994 and enjoyed traveling and painting. Anita produced a number of studio_class paintings of the Oregon Coast which will be treasured by her family forever. Anita was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren will treasure many fond memories of their time with her. She was a generous person, and was always trying to help those around her. She was loved very deeply by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband Lester Hall, her daughter and son_in_law, Lesli and Curtis Genstler, her son and daughter_in_law, Mark and Bonnie Hall, her older sister Naomi Cochran, and Ruby Griffin, her sister_in_law. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren Amy Shelton, Bethany Hall, and Kaleb, Joshua, Daniel and Karina Genstler.
