Alvin B. Redwing died Thursday, March 15th, 2012 at the age of 81. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Geraldine Redwing, two sons, Bradley Redwing of Austin, MN, and Troy and Alberta Redwing of Kennewick, WA, 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Rose Redwing, his brother Chester, and 4 sisters Bernice, Doris, Myrtle, and Evelyn. Alvin was born February 8th, 1931 at home in Austin. He was the youngest of 6 children. His work ethics started at an early age, he took on a job as a paperboy to help his family. He then went to work at the Austin Theater in the projection booth. He left that job for one in the grocery store where he met Geraldine DeVriendt, the two were later married. After the birth of his second son he took a job with Austin public school district as a custodian. He retired after 34 years with the district. Alvin was a great family man and friend. One of his biggest joys in life was watching Brad and Troy play hockey. Alvin would save up his vacation time to take the boys and their friends to games. He loved to collect sports memorabilia and enjoyed watching all kinds of sports. He was always kind and gentle and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorial service will be held at St Olaf's Lutheran Church in Austin Saturday, March 24th, at 2 pm. Reception will follow at the VFW Post 1216. He will be buried at Grandview Cemetery in Austin, MN.
