Alma Grant passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at home with her husband Ben at her side. Alma Lynch was born September 15, 1918 to Lewis Walter Lynch and Martie Olive Glasscock Lynch at Fredrick, OK. She graduated from high school in Fredrick. She attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, graduating in 1940 with a degree in Business Administration and Education. In her junior year of college Alma accepted a blind date with Benjamin M. Grant. The next day, Ben told a friend that "I am going to marry that girl, if she will have me". It was love at first sight and it lasted a lifetime. Ben and Alma were married Feb. 3, 1940 and enjoyed a loving marriage for 71 years. The Grants moved to Pasco in 1950 and brought the first self-propelled combine to the region. Ben started his custom combining business and Alma immediately went to work at the Big Pasco Supply Depot managing record keeping and payroll. When the Depot closed she was employed by General Electric in Richland. By 1954 Ben had purchased another combine and Alma was needed to help with their farm business. This started her long career at Ben's side driving trucks, bookkeeping and homemaking. Alma highly valued education and was a member of the Pasco-Kennewick Branch of the Association of American University Women. She and Ben have been proud alumni supporters of OSU where grandson Eric now attends. She was past president of the Pasco Heights Women's Club. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and admiring the lovely roses that Ben grew for her. She was a determined, highly intelligent, spirited woman who is dearly missed. Alma is preceded in death by her parents and daughter Kay. Those left to celebrate her life are husband Ben, sisters Walteen Corson John of Pasco and Alta Green F.L. of Lynnwood, sister-in-law Margaret Smith, of Virginia, son Sidney Grant Margie, grandson Eric, granddaughter Courtney, all of Pasco, granddaughter Jennifer Grant Bueler Justin and 4 great-grandchildren all of Wasilla, AK, and extended family, neighbors and friends. Graveside services will take place at Desert Lawn Memorial Park Monday, April 18 at 1:00 PM. A memorial service and reception will follow at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, all located at 1401 S. Union St. in Kennewick, WA. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to a charity of your choice.
