Allan O. Faleide, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, left for heaven on Wednesday, November 7, 2007. Allan developed swallowing problems in his later years, which caused weakness and dramatic weight loss. He never lost interest in life though, and fought valiantly to regain his strength. During recovery from a recent fall, Allan developed pneumonia. He died peacefully at Kennewick General Hospital with his wife and several children and grandchildren surrounding him with love and prayers. Allan was born December 18, 1920 in Eden Township, Iowa to Clara Hauge Faleide and Arnold Berndt Faleide. His father emigrated from Norway in 1916 to join relatives already living in Minnesota. To gain early citizenship, his father enlisted in the Army and was sent to fight in France during World War I. His mother Clara?s family emigrated from Norway in 1872, sailing out of Bergen Norway on the Northstar, the last sail ship of the White Star Line. Allan spent his youth helping his father on the farm, attending country schools, and hunting and fishing as often as possible. He was an only child for ten years before his little sister, Janelle, was born. Growing up with an extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins left him with many good memories. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Eden Township, Iowa, which his great-grandfather helped to build and where his mother, Clara, played piano for the congregation from age 14 through middle age. Allan enlisted in the Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945 after four years of service. He came home to marry his sweetheart, Rose Irene Halvorson of Rake, Iowa. They were married June 1, 1946 in Blue Earth, Minnesota. Allan wasn?t interested in farming and decided to seek other opportunities out west. In 1948 he and Rose came to Kennewick, where his uncle Manter and family had recently moved. Manter had come to work at the Hanford site. Allan began training and eventually became a construction electrician. He worked for several contractors at Hanford and on other large projects in the Northwest. He was a long-time member of IBEW Electrical Workers Local Union 112 and was working for J.A. Jones/Empire Electric when he retired in December 1984. Allan was fortunate to enjoy 23 years of retirement. Allan was a dedicated member of King of Kings Lutheran Church in Kennewick. The family wishes to thank Pastor Vogal, Assistant Pastor Van Campen, and the church members for their wonderful support during Dad?s illness and hospitalization. Allan is survived by Rose, his loving wife of 61 years, sister Janelle Johnson of Albert Lea, MN, son Mark Debra Faleide of San Antonio, Texas, daughters Gloria Tom Bender, Joan Daniel Crager, and Karen Walker of Kennewick; nephews Douglas Krukowski and Dennis Johnson, niece Janeen Johnson, grandchildren Jason Mary Beth Faleide, Jody Kevin Elsassar, Stephanie Brian Griffith, Brooke Clark, Joanie Foster, Amy Faleide Mailloux, and Josh Faleide, also eight beautiful great-grandchildren. Allan will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He left a legacy of kindness, love, and integrity that will stay with us forever. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 at Mueller?s Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 10th Avenue and Union Street in Kennewick.
