Alice Harris was born on December 22, 1932 in Montreal Quebec, Canada. She was delivered at home, 'probably the kitchen' she would say. Her father, Henry Strobl was a millwright and raised bees. Her mother Mary, was both a homemaker and a seamstress. She was raised in the countryside of Montreal. She was especially fond of her paternal grandmother Eva, who gave her her first set of oil paints at the age of six. Following in Eva's footsteps, she became an accomplished artist, favoring watercolors of landscapes and florals. In 2000 she illustrated a book authored by her son Rick, "Life's Magical Tales and Adventures". Along with her artistic abilities, she also had a beautiful voice and sang jazz with a number of bands throughout her life. She had a love for athletes, and married a rambunctious baseball player named Billy Harris on October 22, 1959. A rotator cuff injury sidelined him to coaching for the Dodgers farm teams the Spokane Indians and the Tri-Cities Braves. Their arrival to Kennewick was not a pleasant one. She saw blowing sand, tumbleweeds and isolation, but she quickly learned to love this little town in which to raise her children, Billy Jr, Gail and Rick. While raising us kids, mom volunteered for the Hydroplane races and at Beaus Art Gallery, sold Avon, and helped to run the family business, Billy's Bull Pen Tavern, in Kennewick. She dressed each day with class and perfection. She wouldn't leave the house without her bright lipstick on. She also had a passion for cooking and would continually shower her friends and loved ones with homemade food - it was her love language. In her later years, her favorite place to visit was Winco and Leisure Pool in Kennewick. She knew many by name and most became friends. She lived in her tri-level home, with an inground pool and vegetable and flower gardens until her passing at 86 years old. She was vibrant, strong, independent, tough, yet a loving and sweet woman. She will be dearly missed. Survivors include Bill Jr., Gail (Brian) Everett, and Rick (Deena) Harris. Her seven grandchildren, Tyler, Justin, Nicholas, Alexandria, Breanna, Jacob and Bella. She leaves behind one great grandchild Sophia, and a dear friend Beverly (Hartley) Wickemeyer.
